Jefferson Caffery of Louisiana: His Life and Diplomatic Career

Mr. Chris Gilcrease will be the guest speaker at the next presentation by the Alexandre Mouton House/Lafayette Museum and the Lafayette Public Library System.  Mr. Gilcrease’s Masters Thesis, Good Neighbor Diplomacy and Nationalism in the Cuban Revolution of 1933, and his faculty position at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette led to his friendship and collaboration from 1999 to 2005 with Dr. Philip Dur, who was the Jefferson Caffery Professor of Political Science.  Together they co-authored “U.S. Diplomacy and the Downfall of a Cuban Dictator:  Machado in 1933,” which was published in the Journal of Latin American Studies in 2002.  Mr. Gilcrease will discuss Ambassador Caffery’s roots in Lafayette and trace his life from birth through his diplomatic career and retirement.

Doors Open at 1:30 p.m.   Seating is Limited.  Refreshments will be served.
