The Alexandré Mouton House/Lafayette Museum and the Lafayette Public Library System present guest speaker, Charles E. Richard. Mr. Richard is a writer and filmmaker specializing in the history, culture, and ecology of his native French Louisiana. He is the Joseph P. Montiel Endowed Professor, Department of English at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he teaches creative writing and film studies. “In the Mind of the Maker” is a short film documenting the construction of a rare Creole rowing skiff which is a boat design found only in French Louisiana. The film pays tribute to Edward Couvillier, an 86-year-old master craftsman, who is the boat builder.
