LOUISIANAS ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES GRANT

LOUISIANA ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES Emergency Mitigation and Preparedness Grants

With funding awarded by the Emergency Mitigation and Preparedness Grants provided by the State of Louisiana and administered by the Louisiana Endowment of the Humanities, the Lafayette Museum will be able to complete the storm shutter project. Over the past few years, the Lafayette Museum has directed its rehabilitation efforts toward the south and east side of the museum. We have included repair of the storm shutters when addressing each side. Grant funding will allow us to complete repair of storm/hurricane shutters including replacement of damaged cypress, re-fitting as needed, hardware and painting. The Lafayette Museum is grateful to the State of Louisiana for providing the funds and the Louisiana Endowment of the Humanities for administering the Emergency Mitigation and Preparedness Grant for the continued support of the museum.

SOLA GIVING DAY – LAFAYETTE MUSEUM

SOLA Early giving begins on April 4, 2024, with the final giving day on May 2, 2024, and the Lafayette Museum Historic Home and Gardens needs your help!  This year’s goal of $15,000 is to repair and restore the Museum’s Shutters and Gutters. Through the generosity of longtime supporters Rick and Kiki Frayard, and an anonymous donor, we have already received $7,000 in matching donations.  Every donation you give up to $7,000 will be MATCHED dollar for dollar toward our $15,000 goal.  Please visit the Museum’s SOLA Giving site and help us preserve this local treasure.

2023 LOUISIANA ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES

Funding for this 2023 Louisiana Culture Care Fund Grant has been provided by the State of Louisiana and administered by the Louisiana Endowment of the Humanities.

2023 LOUISIANA ENDOWMENT FOR THE HUMANITIES
With funding awarded by the Louisiana Culture Care Fund Grant provided by the State of
Louisiana and administered by the Louisiana Endowment of the Humanities, the Lafayette
Museum was able to help mitigate its rising cost of insurance.
The Lafayette Museum received notice in Spring 2022 that our property insurance carrier would
no longer cover the museum due to the devastating Louisiana storms. Larger, national insurers
are no longer covering the Gulf Coast; smaller carriers are bankrupt. Insurance premiums
increased from $4,600 in 2022 to $12,000 in 2023. Louisiana Culture Care Funding Grant used
for museum operations allows for us to continue growing our programs, special exhibits, French
and Spanish translations, and quality Speakers Series.
The Lafayette Museum is grateful to the State of Louisiana for providing the funds and the
Louisiana Endowment of the Humanities for administering the Louisiana Culture Care Fund
Grant for it continued support of the museum.

Lafayette Visitor Enterprise Fund Award

2023 LAFAYETTE VISITOR ENTERPRISE FUND
The Lafayette Museum was the recipient of a grant funded by the Lafayette Visitor Enterprise
Fund, a program of Lafayette Convention & Visitors Commission.
After receiving a generous grant from LCVC in 2018, Sparks Engineering, INC conducted
a detailed assessment of the house to recommend measures for proper rehabilitation
and preservation. Many issues have been previously addressed through the generosity of the
Lafayette Visitor Enterprise Fund.
Remaining items of “concern” of the museum include replacing sill beams of Sunday House
porch; porch pier foundations that have become compromised and need replacing or
rebuilding; and deterioration of steps and porch floorboards.
The commitment of the Lafayette Convention and Visitors Commission to preserving the
Lafayette Museum historic landmark is greatly appreciated by the Board of the Lafayette
Museum Association and by all in Acadiana who value historic preservation.
