Atchafalaya National Heritage Area Competitive Grant

The Lafayette Museum received an Atchafalaya National Heritage Area Competitive grant through the Atchafalaya Trace Commission, a program of the Louisiana State Department for Culture, Recreation and Tourism. This heritage interpretive grant funds interpretive improvements allowing funds to update the museum’s introductory film that enhances the experience of all visitors. It also gives the museum the opportunity to update its French film and printed materials and allows the addition of a Spanish film and printed materials. The French and Spanish materials provide educational opportunities for schools with Language Immersion programs. The Lafayette Museum is grateful for funds provided through the Atchafalaya National Heritage Area Competitive Grant.

Exquisitely decorated tablescapes provided the setting for “Vignettes – The Art of the Tabletop” at the  Lafayette Museum – Historic Home and Gardens on March 31, 2022.  Guests enjoyed the artistry of tablescapes designed by local vendors followed by a delightful picnic luncheon in the Museum’s garden. 

The Lafayette Museum is pleased to announce it is a recipient of a grant award from the Louisiana Culture Care Fund. The Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities relaunched the Louisiana Culture Care Fund to help ensure the survival of Louisiana’s cultural institutions and assist in the recovery from the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. With the funding provided, the Lafayette Museum was able to retain its salaried docents while the museum was closed to the public.

The Lafayette Museum is dedicated to sharing and promoting the history and culture of Acadiana by collecting, preserving, exhibiting, and interpreting artifacts related to the families and times in which they lived in the house and the events that contributed to the development of Lafayette and the area.

Funding for Louisiana Culture Care Fund grants has been administered by the Louisiana Endowment for the Humanities (LEH) and provided by the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) as part of the American Rescue Plan (ARP) and the NEH Sustaining the Humanities through the American Rescue Plan (SHARP) initiative.
